Fairsize

Online renewal photo, ready to upload.

The online renewal does its own cropping, so it asks you not to crop to 2 × 2. This tool keeps your framing, converts the file to JPEG and makes sure it lands between 54 KB and 10 MB.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded to us.

What size photo does the US online passport renewal need?

A JPG, JPEG or HEIF file between 54 kilobytes and 10 megabytes. It should show you down to the shoulders and should not be cropped to 2 × 2.

Why should I not crop the photo?

The renewal system crops and positions the photo itself. The official page says not to pre-crop it.
