How we check the rules.
Fairsize makes upload-ready photos and files for official forms. Every number on this site comes from the official page for that form, and each form page shows the date we read it.
Where the numbers come from
Each form page lists its sources: government pages such as travel.state.gov, GOV.UK, canada.ca and passports.gov.au, and embassy notices. When a live page blocks automated browsers, we read a dated Internet Archive copy and say so. We don't publish a rule we haven't read on an official page.
What we won't make
Some countries require a studio photo or a professional print (Canada, Australia, and printed UK photos). For those we show the rules and, where it helps, check a file your photographer gave you, but we don't offer a home-made version that would break the rules.
What the tools measure
- Head and eye position from the lines you place, converted to the percentages or millimetres the form uses.
- File size in KB of 1000 bytes, the stricter reading of limits like "240 kB".
- The US 20:1 compression rule, which sets a minimum file size most tools ignore.
- File type from the file's first bytes, not its name, the way portals check it.
- Background, as a plain-and-light check on the top corners. It's a hint, not a verdict.
Found a mistake?
If a rule here differs from the official page, the official page is right, and we want to fix it. Mention the page and the rule in a message through the address on the privacy page.
