Fairsize

NZeTA photo, trimmed, not edited.

Immigration New Zealand wants a 3:4 portrait JPEG between 512 KB and 3.14 MB, and it does not allow any editing, not even brightness or contrast. This tool only trims your photo to 3:4 if needed and saves it in that size range. Colours and background stay exactly as you took them.

Our server only accepts page counts of 512 bytes or less. See every field it keeps

Worth knowing

  • Immigration New Zealand says photos changed with AI or editing tools can delay or decline a request. That includes cropping your head onto a new background. This tool never changes colour or the background. If your phone adds beauty or filter effects by itself, turn them off before you take the photo.
  • A 3:4 photo straight from a phone camera often already fits. In that case the tool only checks the file size and saves it as JPEG.
  • For good light, stand about 0.5 m from the wall and have the photographer stand about 1.5 m in front of you. Selfies are accepted only in the NZeTA mobile app.

Questions

What size photo does the NZeTA need?

A JPG or JPEG between 512 KB and 3.14 MB, in portrait with a 3:4 aspect ratio. Your face should cover 70–80% of the image.

Can I edit my NZeTA photo?

No. Immigration New Zealand does not accept filters, beautification, AI editing, or changes to colour, brightness, contrast or sharpness. This tool only trims the photo to 3:4 and saves it in the size range.

Why is my photo too small for the NZeTA?

The file must be at least 512 KB. Screenshots and photos sent through chat apps are often compressed below that. Use the original photo from your camera.
